Pelosi Threatens Trump With Second Impeachment

By Claire Hardwick

As representatives in the US Capitol continue to reel from the unprecedented attack from Trump supporters, Democrat lawmakers and a House GOP member are calling for Trump to be removed from office. With just two weeks left as president, they clearly want to send a message to Trump’s supporters, his family, and future presidential candidates that inciting violence has no place in American politics.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has called on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office. If he does not, she will begin the impeachment process to “end the sorrow show.” Pelosi is joined by Chuck Schumer who has also called on Trump’s cabinet to remove the president.

If he is impeached for the second time, Trump may not have the same support from Republican senators. While openly attacking his vice president, the senate GOP has been split over objecting to the electoral college confirmation. Senator Mitt Romney and Mitch McConnell have spoken out against the “dirty dozens” misuse of political power for their own gain and fame. The result was the Trump mob storming the Capitol building, and Republican senators are still dealing with the consequences of yesterday’s events.

While Trump promised an “orderly transition” of power on January 20th, it is unclear if this promise will serve as enough of an apology for members in Congress.

There has been no news out of the White House or from Vice President Pence, who was reportedly furious with Trump’s attacks on him presiding over the electoral college confirmation process.

Regardless, Trump’s presidency is coming to a close, and it remains uncertain just how far lawmakers and Republicans will go as he finishes up his final days in office.
