Inside Kanye West’s Meeting With Donald Trump
A notorious Twitter user met with another notorious Twitter user today. It’s quite the image to think of what the journalists parked inside Trump Tower must have thought when they saw Kanye West, fresh out of rehab for a psychological breakdown, walk through the front doors and head to the elevators. They must have had another conniption when not much longer, Kanye West came down with the president-elect himself. When asked what the meeting was about, West remained silent, and Trump said they talked about “life.” West finally spoke, saying he came downstairs in the lobby for a picture. This whole ordeal threw the Internet into an absolute conniption. So the real question, is why?
First of all, because Republican politicians rarely meet with celebrities. Furthermore, most celebrities would not associate themselves with a Republican. Even though Hillary Clinton was often taking seflies with celebrities, including Kim Kardashian and Kanye West while campaigning in the election, it is not expected to see West do the same with Donald Trump. Especially as Hollywood is not arm in arm with the GOP political players. Next, West was checked into a UCLA hospital after his breakdown on stage where he talked about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. He said that he did not vote, but if he did, it would have been for Trump. He said that Trump was part of the future, while Clinton was part of the past. And then, of course, you have the moment where West himself said he would run for president in 2020. West, who is known for his Twitter rants and polarizing opinions, met his equal when he went to the Trump Towers. And for a president who said he will not take daily briefings, this was seen as a somewhat peculiar meeting. But for Donald Trump, it is really of no surprise.
And in the meeting that reportedly lasted a whole of 15 minutes, Kanye West then told his Twitter users what went down in the meeting. And according to West, they covered a lot of ground. In a series of tweets, he said he wanted to discuss with Trump “multicultural issues.” He then continued that “these issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.” And then said he feels “it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.” Then, finished it off with a tweet, “#2024,” which hints that Mr. West himself, will surely run for president just like Mr. Trump did.
The Trump Tower has turned into the center of politics since Donald Trump won the election. Trump meeting with a celebrity like West is in fact not surprising, as Trump himself considers himself part of this group. And Trump working with West is not a bad thing. Politicians frequently work with celebrities because of their huge popularity and appeal, as well as their reach and their influence. West broke the Democrat Hollywood mold by walking into Trump Tower, and now, many celebrities might follow his lead. Furthermore, if Trump and West actually focus and address the issues he mentioned in his tweets, there could possibly be positive change. Especially for a president who has been called racist, and someone the left fears will target minority groups while president. Trump said they are “just friends,” but hopefully, they can work together to use their influence for the common good.
