Trump Gains Another Win: Sarah and Bristol Palin

When it comes to the right wing faction of the Republican Party, an endorsement from Sarah Palin is as good as gold. The former Vice Presidential candidate has a loyal following like you could never believe, and continues to be an activist when it comes to popular support for various politicians around the country. Her power is so strong, and her endorsement so meaningful, that there has been speculation all day about who she would endorse on the eve of the Iowa Caucus: Senator Ted Cruz or Donald Trump. The power of this is clear in Cruz’s statement to CNN today, where spokesperson Rick Tyler said, “I think it [would] be a blow to Sarah Paline, because Sarah Palin has been a champion for the conservative cause, and if she was going to endorse Donald Trump, sadly, she would be endorsing someone who’s held progressive views all of their life on the sanctity of life, on marriage, on partial-birth abortion.

Wrong move.

Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin’s daughter, immediately wrote a response, with an article titled, “Is THIS Why People Don’t like Cruz?” In her article, she quickly remembers Cruz’s quote, where he states that he would not have been elected into the Senate if it were not for Sarah Palin. Bristol also points out that her mother has always stood by the Texas senator, that because of his “negative knee-jerk reaction,” she hopes that her “mom does endorse Trump.”

Clearly here, Bristol knew who her mom was going to endorse, and wanted to take away any idea that Sarah Palin was in any way shape or form not totally committed to the conservative movement. While Trump made a move, Bristol made one right back. Bristol ended her article, directed to Cruz, writing, “You’ve also said, ‘She can pick winners!’ I hope you’re right, and that she endorses Donald Trump for President.”

Less than two weeks before the Iowa Caucus, this is the kind of edge that may put Trump over the top. As Cruz was gaining traction in the polls, Trump started to move his ship full steam ahead. Now, with Palin’s endorsement and Bristol’s reaction to Cruz’s statement, Trump will gain all voters who like Sarah, may have been on the fence, and trying to decide between the two candidates.

While many of you may read this and not think it hold much merit, Palin is equivalent for some people to a celebrity endorsement. Her daughter’s activism is also key to many people’s opinion when it comes to conservative politics. When it comes to the further right leaning members of the Republican Party, she really is the one to “pick winners,” and has been a true leader for the Tea Party movement.
