Rand Paul Wants to Defund Planned Parenthood (And a Campaign Contribution)
Planned parenthood came under fire this week after a video was released that the group was selling parts of aborted babies. Although this sounds like something out of a horror film, Planned Parenthood stands by their statement that it is completely legal, and wants to testify in front of Congress to prove it. Here is what happened.
Two people went undercover with a hidden camera to speak with the top doctor of planned parenthood and Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola. The two people were from the Center for Medical Progress, which is an anti-abortion group. The two peole were actors, and posed as buyers from a human biologics company, pretending to be interested in purchasing baby parts. Nucatola revealed that doctors giving abortions will plan how they take the baby out in order to not hurt or obstruct certain organs that have distinct medical use, such as the liver. You can watch the video here:
The group is revealing this in relation to a federal law that prohibits the selling or purchasing of fetus tissue. It is also amidst a longterm effort to defund Planned Parenthood and shut it down. Planned parenthood is federally funded, and those who are against abortions and other procedures do not want their tax dollars to support the organization. Pro-choice advocates are even against the selling of fetus parts, and it is considered morally deranged by both sides of the aisle. Planned Parenthood says that this video was edited to promote the anti-abortion groups motivation, but many politicians, and Americans, disagree, and say the information in the video speaks for itself.
So, in wake of these recent events, Senator Rand Paul started a petition to totally defund Planned Parenthood. He said on his Facebook page, “I am more appalled than ever by Planned Parenthood’s complete disregard for the sanctity of human life. The recent revelation that this taxpayer-funded organization is selling human body parts of the unborn further proves that this agency deserves our scorn not our tax dollars.” He continues that Congress must take action immediately, and wants everyone to sign his petition immediately, but then also asks everyone to donate to his campaign so he can “spread his message to voters.”
