Republicans Fight Against Obamacare
After five years of the Affordable Care Act becoming law, Republicans in the House and the Senate are steadfast in their need to repeal it and start over. In particular, Senator Ted Cruz stated in his announcement that he will run for president, that this is one of his main platforms. Many have lost their insurance or their premiums have gone up, and the GOP in Congress has been highlighting this week the “broken promises” of Obamacare.
In the five year anniversary this week, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers has also made strides to show the problems with Obamacare. She read in a press conference today different stories of those who have either lost insurance or cannot pay for their new insurance. She said, “the stories are repeated all across the country.” She highlighted that the Balanced Budget which will be on the House floor this week, repeals this law and listens to the American people. As families in America have to balance their budget, Rodgers said that so does the American government.
Senator Marco Rubio has gone as far to present a plan for “Post Obamacare Era.” This claim includes:
- Provide a refundable tax credit that all Americans can use to purchase health insurance.
- Reform insurance regulations to encourage innovation.
- Save Medicare and Medicaid by placing them on fiscally sustainable paths.
While the Republican party may not agree on everything, they are all united in the dire need to repeal Obamacare and limit federal overreach. This week, they are doing just that.
