Republicans Evoke Churchill
Republicans seem to be trying to evoke the image of Winston Churchill, the English Prime Minister who pretty much saved Europe from the Nazis. He was fearless and daring when facing a horrible opponent, and it was truly a pivotal moment in history. Liz Cheney, who is running for the primary Republican senate spot in Wyoming, compared herself to Churchill fighting Adolf Hitler. She compared the state of Washington to England during World War II, and apparently thinks that she can go into DC and make just as big of a change. Senator Ted Cruz from Texas also used Churchill imagery this morning on Fox News, where he said he would not stop the fight against Obamacare. Cruz said, “And I can guarantee you one thing, (Senator) Mike (Lee) and I are going to fight with every breath in our body. As Churchill said, we will fight on the beaches, we will fight on the streets. We will fight at every step to stop the biggest job killer in America.” The use of this language is extreme, but Cruz is clearly trying to express his seriousness in pulling out every stop until the Affordable Care Act is repealed. He praised the House for making a CR that defunds Obamacare, and said Republicans in the Senate will continue the fight.
