Boehner Talks CR

House Speaker John Boehner held a press conference today where he addressed the house’s goal in passing the CR. He said that tomorrow, the house will pass a budget that protects Americans from the devastating effects of Obamacare. Boehner said the Affordable Care Act is a train wreck, and will just increase healthcare costs as well as destroy millions of American jobs. He said that he expects a victory in the house tomorrow, and that the Republicans have won the fight on his side of the chamber. Although he refused to speculate and said it was too early to know what the senate will do with the budget, he expects that his colleagues will continue to fight the way the house fought.  Boehner said that Republicans have no interest in defaulting the debt, and want a plan that raises the debt ceiling but also decreases the deficit. Boehner reminded the president that in the summer of 2011, the government passed this type of  budget. As he debt has increased more than 6 trillion dollars since Obama took office, the speaker urged that if nothing is done about Washington’s spending problem, it will show the world that America is not taking responsibility for its own economy. He said the best way to address the spending problem is by repealing Obamacare. Boehner criticized Obama for not negotiating with Congress, and that although he refuses to take leadership, the house will not. Boehner said that the house expects to pass a CR, and then the senate to do the same. It will then be up to the president, who is sitting this debate out, to engage.
