House Responds to Syria
House Representative Paul Ryan said in a statement today that Obama has some “work to do” on Syria, and he wants the president to directly tell Congress and the American people how our involvement with this country will strengthen US security. Ryan criticized Obama for his “missteps” in Syria, but wants to see the President show real leadership in order to have a conversation with Congress on the goal of a military strike. In contrast, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor released in a statement today that he will vote to provide the President any military force that he needs in Syria. Cantor said, American has a compelling national security interest to prevent and respond to the use of weapons of mass destruction, especially by a terrorist state such as Syria, and to prevent further instability in a region of vital interest to the United States.”Cantor continued that Assad is an example of a “rogue” state.
