House Rejects Farm Bill

The House of Representatives voted today against the farm bill, 195-234. This five year bill would cost 940 billion dollars, and therefore viewed by some Democrats and Republicans as too expensive when the country is 17 trillion dollars in debt. According to Pete Kaperowicz, Erik Wasson, and Russel Berman reporting for The Hill, “The vote is a blow to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and other Republican leaders who for two years have failed to move farm policy forward. The issue has badly divided Republicans. ” Boehner while leaving the floor told The Hill, “The Democrats walked away from this,” and refused to give a further comment.
